Wire rope lubricants have two principal functions:
- To reduce friction as the individual wires move over each other.
- To provide corrosion protection and lubrication in the core and inside wires as well as on the exterior surfaces.
Since the lubricant must satisfy
both of these requirements, lubricating wire rope sufficiently can be difficult, regardless of the construction and composition. Because most wire ropes fail from the inside, it is important to make sure that the center core receives sufficient lubricant. Accomplishing this requires a lubricant with strong penetrating capabilities.
Dri-Slide® Multi-Purpose Lubricant meets all of these requirements. It’s liquid carrier delivers lubricant to all surfaces, penetrating the smallest openings. The liquid carrier evaporates, leaving a dry lubricant plus rust and corrosion inhibitors bonded to the strands of wire rope all the way through to the core.
